A poster for the awareness of the 100th anniversary of the death of French composer Claude Debussy
First name is not the only thing that connects Debussy and Monet. Both were the main representatives of Impressionism in their area – Debussy being a composer, Monet an impressionist pioneer in painting. What is more, one of Debussy’s most famous symphonies, The Sea, is another symbolic link of these two great personalities, insomuch as the painting by Claude Monet, which I embedded in my poster, is called the Study of the Sea.
In classical music, ligature is a graphic symbol that tells a musician to perform two or more notes in a single gesture, and on a single syllable. In literal translation, ligature means a connection. In this case, the ligature is used as a link between the year of birth and the death of a very relevant French musician personality.
